They don't take reservations. If there is a wait, there's a sign up sheet outside the door.
I really enjoyed this place. The atmosphere is lively, and open. The breakfast meal portions are substantial. I had the eggs Benedict with crab and was satisfied - it was made well and filling.
Very nice place. Good breakfast
I thought enjoyed my food and so did the folks I was dining with. It's a cozy spot. I would have given this place 5 ⭐ if the food had all come out together. There were only 3 of us sharing a meal together. One person had a Benedict, the other person had scrambled eggs and hash browns, I had the shakshuka. Had I known that the shashuka takes as long as it does I might have ordered something else. Unfortunately, for the two people dining with me, who are incredibly thoughtful humans, they could/would not begin their meal until mine arrived. My meal took another 10 to 15 minutes before it came to the table. Which of course meant that my companions meals were substantially chilled by the time my plate arrived.
Great coffee and breakfast! Can get busy in the morning but the food is delicious and healthy.
Seriously one of the best meals I had in San Francisco! Such phenomenal southern comfort food... I’d never had biscuits and gravy in 39 years of life (I’m from the UK) and my God did it make me want to move! Awesome awesome awesome. Get hungry, go now and leave a big tip
good food good price
Friendly staff and excellent food!
Food and service made us very happy. Coffee cups did not stay empty for long. One of the best places in the world to have a breakfast.
Best to come hungry! 😍
So many gluten free options! I was in heaven! Friendly staff and excellent food. Would visit again and again and again
I was on a business trip from London to SF and found this gem in Lower Haight. Staff is super friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent. Seriously probably the best pancakes I've ever had. Looking forward to coming back!
GO HERE, OMG YAS SO GOOD
Absolutely amazing place! Highly recommend it!!
Hearty meals for your soul on mornings and noon. In any meal you get, the care and taste are always there. My personal favorite thing is the potatoes they have with most of their meals. They're crisp and delicious, sometimes shining as bright as their entrees. Would definitely come back!
great service, food, friendly place
Definitely need to stop here this place has some of the best food I've eaten
Nice place for breakfast. Look at the board to find the full options that are not all described on the menu.
Friendly and efficient service, homey surroundings and a hearty breakfast. And inexpensive to boot.
Cozy cash only brunch spot.
Good breakfast but the staff was very busy and they have no free WiFi for the customers.
Perfect place for breakfast. Tried some in SFO but value for money, authenticity, kindness and last but not least food quality is really good. Very local, almost no tourists. Small restaurant so be there at 8.30 when they open up in the morning if you do not want to wait. Great spot to begin SFO lookaround for Europeans like us as you are up early anyway due to jet lag. Big Bus hop on/hop off close by as well as the painted ladies. Definitely at must do and do again when we come back
For breakfast the best. Expect to wait but worth it!
During our visit to San Francisco from the UK we stopped in the local area and tried several local places for breakfast, this was our favourite.Food was amazing, staff fantastic and the service was spot on.Made us feel welcome every time.My wife who is vegetarian loved the menu as normally she's quite limited.Thank you again and if we're ever in the area we will be sure to pop in.
Great breakfast! Super service!
Fancy Food. But Sanitary condition is not good.
Amazing food and service!
This place is a rare find! Cozy, comfortable, and non-pretentious. It is such a great place to grab breakfast, brunch, and lunch. I ordered Big Guy Breakfast for myself but it’s definitely big enough to share with two people. Staffs are friendly and attentive. Food is reasonably price and decent portion. Definitely recommend to anyone happens to be in the area!
Great quality food, big portions, friendly waiters!
I WENT TO THIS DINER THIS MORNING MAY 28 TH 2020 AT 11:03 AM TO BUY BREAKFAST THE PERSON THAT WAS RINGING MY ORDER UP SAID YOU NEED TO HURRY UP AND ORDER I ONLY AS HIM WHAT DID THEY SERVE BECAUSE I HAD NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE AND I WON'T GO BACK YOU NEVER TREAT CUSTOMER'S MEAN OR RUDE I SPENT MY MONEY IN THERE . YOU HAVE ONE TIME ONLY TO BE MEAN OR RUDE TO ME I LEARNT SOMETHING FROM THIS STICK TO MY OLF ROOT'S I JUST HAD TO LET PEOPLE IN THE PUBLIC KNOW HOW I WAS TREATED WHICH IS BAD ON HIS BEHALF .
Shakshuka is the best breakfast I’ve had in SF so far!
Homey environment, giant portions, excellent breakfast food, what's not to love? I am imagining that when it's busy there is quite a wait, as the place is small. However, even a wait would be totally worth it for the biscuits and gravy, the pancakes, or the signature breakfast sandwich on a poppy seed Kaiser!
This is a tough for me to decide on a rating for. We'll start with the bad. We waited about 45 minutes for our food to get cooked. It was only two of us and we got a sandwich and an omelette. The redeeming qualities are the food was great, the biscuits are very tasty and our server was friendly. I'm hoping the wait was just a one-off occurrence. I'll cautiously try eating here again.
Both the hash and eggs and the eggs Benedict were fantastic. I suspect the rest of the menu is also pretty great. Service was also really friendly and helpful. I can see why this place is a neighborhood institution.
Had a nice afternoon break here, with some good pancakes and a delcious coffee & beer. Kind staff, okay prices. Highchair for baby was available, staff was very helpful. Would come back & recommend.
FINALLY. A place where I can get eggs and home fries in the bay for 6.50! And it's good, too. Everything we ordered (especially the New England Hash) was amazing and I wanted to eat everything I saw coming out to the other tables. I'm an East Coaster who grew up on diners and great breakfast cafes. I've been breakfast hunting for three years now (primarily in the east bay) and this is instantly my favorite breakfast place in the bay. Will be back again and again.
O-M-G Friendly staff and the food...aw man the food..wow..they get 6 out of 5 stars..way to gk guys
Great value and plenty of gluten free options.
Classic San Francisco brunch spot in the lower Haight. Can't go wrong here, I've been enjoying this place since I first moved to the neighborhood and still love it now that I live halfway across town. You won't go hungry (they have large portions), but they offer some healthier options too. Lots of comfort food, including the classic Blanched Flarney Garney.
The food is so delicious! Great place for breakfast!
Kate's is the best breakfast in the neighborhood. Cheddar bacon cornmeal pancakes are one of the best dishes in all of San Francisco. I crave them constantly. The wait here can get crazy, so come early. While you wait for your food, try to figure out all of the word puzzles along the wall. I'm still stumped by a few!
Get the shakshuka! Soooo good!
Great home style food. Tastes like mom would make it... really delicious. The portion sizes are also really good and it is one of the best places to take your family. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Sometimes there can be a wait list but not too bad. It can be busy because the food and service is so good. You won't regret stopping here.
Excellent food! Great service!
Breakfast is fabulous. Also burgers are great. There is usually a wait but it's worth it.
Excellent service cornmeal pancakes so delicious great prices.
The first pancakes in San Francisco that taste like my aunt's 😋
Amazing folks behind the bar. Delicious food and such great service. Highly recommend Kate's when you're on Haight St!
Best breakfast in SF. Great corned beef hash in the world. Wonderful house made sausage. Friendly quick service. I eat here whenever I stay in SF. A ++ place
If you're looking for some classic breakfast food, look no further. Kate's Kitchen is wonderful. The servers are always friendly. I like to get either the veggie scramble that is usually different every time I'm there or I'll get some biscuits and gravy. I'm also a fan of their French toast. Pretty much can't go wrong eating here.
Lovely place, kind staff and amazing food. We loved it.
